20 years of designing things people trust. Now built for robotics.

I'm Scott Stevens, an industrial designer based in Austin, Texas. For 20 years I've designed physical products where the user experience and the feel of the controls are critical: aircraft interiors, marine controls, safety mechanisms, and commercial electronics.
Robots are the next big test of whether people trust machines. The instincts that make a complex control interface intuitive, or a heavy mechanism smooth to operate, are the same ones that make an AMR easy to read and a humanoid approachable on a live factory floor.
When you work with me, you work directly with an experienced designer who understands manufacturing constraints, sensor packaging, and how people behave, alongside your engineering team from day one.
Recognition
Eleven design awards, including Flieger's Innovation of the Year, the NMMA Customer Satisfaction Index Award, Surfboat of the Year, Robb Report Best of the Best, and the Edison and IDEA awards. Utility and design patents. College for Creative Studies.
How I work
I start with your constraints, test form and interface quickly, detail the design, and keep it intact through handoff and production.
- Multiple stakeholders
- I design for the different needs and expectations of your facility managers, operators, maintenance, co-workers, and bystanders.
- Intuitive interfaces
- Intuitive interfaces designed to show what is need at the time they need it. It is organized to match the mental models of the users.
- Status feedback
- Light, sound, and form work together to tell those around it what they need to know when the need to know it.
- High-stress composure
- I design for the perceptual and cognitive disruption that occurs during high stress situations. I've designed commercial safety products (e.g. LOTO) for over 10 years.
- Mature brand and design identity
- Our designs help you command premium margins and retain lifelong customers by reinforcing your brand identity, creating desirable experiences, and developing valuable intellectual property.
- Confidence to manufacture
- Production-ready CAD, DFM work that meets your engineering and manufacturing standards providing hands-on support.
